Fan art of The Simpsons, YAY! From the episode "The Homer They Fall" from season 8, a mock poster that might have been seen hanging around Springfield back in 1996. Lots of references to all sorts of things here. I took as much from the actual episode as possible, like the title fight name (Payback), the boxer's nicknames (Homer was also called "The Southern Dandy" in this episode) and the venue at Springfield Coliseum. The fight date, Sunday November 10, was the original air date of the episode as well. There's also tributes to the show in general referencing places in Springfield, and even a nod to the Life In Hell strip. As a very subtle joke, the state Springfield is in is purposely torn off the bottom right corner and further obstructed by the fire hose wheel. The poster itself is a direct parody of classic boxing posters from the 60s. In particular I used the Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) vs. Ernie Terrel from 1967 as reference.

The art and layout were done in Adobe Illustrator with the Pen tool, then given texture in Photoshop. I printed the poster 11 x 17 and frayed the edges with an Exacto knife, roughed it up and crumpled it a bit and taped it to the wall. Problem was, it wouldn't stick to the concrete, so I taped it on an adjacent door, shot it and the concrete wall bare and masked the poster in Photoshop and placed it on the wall digitally.

Moe Syzlack: Look Homer, there's still a chance of you beating Drederick Tatum.  You just gotta visualize how you're gonna do it!

*Meanwhile, inside of Homer's 's mind*

Announcer: A heart defect has suddenly felled Tatum moments before he could enter the ring!

it's a fight made in heck and homer is the average schmoh, and dreadrick is a fighting machine, homer takes the punishment, but should have lasted the distence, tatum is one bad dude, homer should have taken a leaf out of carol channing's fight style book, and let the opponent wear themselves out, (then she could have thrown a great uppercut to tyson's chin, while he wasn't looking then she could win that fight i wish that could have been in that fine battle). as seen at begining of a family guy episode called patriot games. i wish channing's punches she did swing interconnect with tyson's' body. that would be spectacular.
