The Immaculate Jim by dhulteen The Immaculate Jim by dhulteen
Okay… this one is the big enchilada. My work on the Muppet Madness competition [link] actually taught me some important things when it comes to digital painting, and I wanted to use what I learned from that experience on a grander level. This piece took approximately 40 hours to complete and was completely done in Photoshop with a tablet as well as some other tools. Inspired by Michelangelo’s “The Creation of Adam” found on the Sistine Chapel ceiling, and deifying Jim in only the way a real fan ever would, this is the culmination of years of training on my end. The philosophical implications are staggering on this one in my opinion.

WOW! This may very well be the best parody of the famous painting I have ever seen, not only that, but among the greatest fanart ever. It pays real good tribute to Jim Henson himself, the man behind the Muppets, his most beloved creation, Kermit the Frog, and several of his other Muppet characters. He did in fact bring these characters to life, and this picture shows that, not only that, but we have Kermit sitting on a cloud, and a rainbow, symbolizing "The Rainbow Connection". Lovely, lovely, lovely.

This is just amazing. I think you've managed to capture everything Jim Henson was about and his life in one picture. From all I read about Muppets as a kid and what I've read recently with Fraggle rock returning to TV(because I just love reading about everything that interests me even a little), I can tell you put a lot of thought into this and chose which characters to use very carefully.

I am alternately very impressed, amused, and slightly disturbed by this tribute both to perhaps the greatest entertainment mind of all time and, of course, the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Beautifully made.

Been meaning to ask Davo... what made you decide to include Guy Smiley? It seems like Ernie would be the more logical SST choice.

But either way, this is so awesome! You've really taken your art to a new level of style; I'd love to see what some of your future visuals (if you ever start those up again) would be like.

Y'know, Snowthy; I had a reason, a valid one too, and for the life of me I can't remember what it was. It may have had something to do with putting another orange skinned character in there when I already had Cantus. Rowlf was going to be in there too, but I had conflict with having another Muppet Show character even though Kermit crosses all borders, AND I had already done so much work on it that I really just wanted to be done with it. Off the top of my head, Michaelangelo's original piece had three more "angels" with God, that aren't represented here and I wanted to have more, but like I said, 40 hours was enough for me.

I did post this on MC in the visuals thread, but I get zero hits there, so I'm unofficially done with MC in that regards for now.

I think Guy Smiley as a good idea. He's sort of represents Jim Henson's showman side like Convincing John does, but Cantus represents another side of Henson and you already had a Fraggle, I think Guy Smiley does the same but for Sesame Street.

Lol, I get ya. So was it indeed 40 hours straight? Then yeah, I guess I can see where you're coming from. Again, either way, great piece of work! :D

And yeah... MC's so... so... just not MC anymore... I don't enjoy being there anymore. And I had hoped after people lassoed me back last years things had changed, but if anything, they've gotten worse in the past few months.
