Celebrate History

Description

In the early part of the 20th century, historian Carter Woodson was disappointed at the lack of black history in books and literature. Along with the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, he announced "Negro History Week" in the second week of February, 1926. Eventually this became "Black History Month" as we all know it today, but Woodson had hoped that it would eventually become moot when black history was fundamental to American history.

Recently I heard a discussion of how truly amazing that a black president had not only been elected to the president of the United States, but elected to two terms, and how many never thought they'd see that day in their lifetime. Imagine if Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. could meet our president today and see what he as a civil rights leader, and we as a country, have accomplished.

This piece, a grateful president thanking a brave leader and pioneer, is in honor of celebrating black history all year round as simply "history".

I don't care how you personally feel about our American president. I don't care to discuss politics in general let alone on social media. I did this piece to represent where we've been, where we are, and where we're going, and I'm exceedingly proud of that.
